Hope can be found in the embers.
I watch the flame
Watch it liquid in place
Like the motion of laughter
Or a knife

Or a knee blushing
Against another. I wanted to burn
And burn and pool in the sink,
Cast hunger in amber

Flicker a borderland
In pieces of dark brown glass,
In the many languages of your skin.

I wanted all of these things and surely more,
In the name of a higher purpose
Maybe none at all.
